This blog has served us well for a few months, but we now have our very own blogging system, which we called Updates.

Lots of Little Updates

We fixed a whole bunch of things today.

1. If it’s the middle of the night, a little box in red will be displayed next to the phone numbers on your profile page, showing the local time. This pursuant to a complaint from a user that she was woken up by a customer calling from overseas.

2. Listings now display price/area ratios. In the case of developments, where both prices and areas are given as a range, the POA (price over area) is impossible to calculate, however, so it has to be entered by the user. To add POA’s for development listings, just go to the listings manager and click on Quick Edit.

3. The mail form has been improved further. More information, better information, clearer information, and fewer bugs.

4. We improved the look a little for the listing engine, the listings pages, and also the listings manager. Didn’t notice anything? Well, the key word here is “a little.”

5. There was some info missing from the listings page, such as the internal filing code. This has been added.

6. We did away with some illogical, weird stuff. For example, when entering a warehouse for rent, you had the option to specify which pets were allowed. Who keeps pets in a warehouse? So that is no more. And so on.

Sign Up Form Working Again

Apologies to all new users. For the past 48 hours, our sign-up form was experiencing a glitch, which meant you couldn’t sign up. We fixed it and now you can. Hope you will forgive us this slight problem and sign up with us anyway. These problems don’t happen very often… Really.

Ah Yer! West Indies is now Ah Yer! Caribbean

As part of our continuing efforts to serve the Caribbean market better, we have rebranded our West Indies version as Ah Yer! Caribbean. The change has already taken place. All listings pages have already been updated.

User accounts are unaffected.

Web traffic is expected to dip until our new web addresses propagate throughout the net, but then to increase to more than double of what it was before.

New Addresses for All Users

This is to make things even easier for everyone. Note that the old URL’s still do work, but redirect to the new ones.

Login Problem Update

It seems that with older versions of Microsoft Explorer, versions lower than 6.0, users cannot login due to a cookie conflict. This is a bug in Internet Explorer, and not Ah Yer!’s fault. Unfortunately, there is no way we can fix this problem from our end.

If you cannot login (and are using an old version of Internet Explorer), please delete your cookies. From the menu bar…

Tools –> Internet Options –> Delete Cookies

Another option would be to upgrade to a new version of Internet Explorer, or, much better yet, switch to a decent browser such as Firefox.

We are very sorry about the problem but really the only person to blame for this happenstance is Mr Bill Gates and his inability to make good software.

Problems Logging In?

We have received two complaints today that the user cannot login. We were not aware of this problem and have not been able to replicate the symptom – when we try logging in, it works just fine, on any account.

We are guessing this might be a browser-specific issue, and have made some changes to our login and security system. We hope that the issue is solved, but, please, let us know ASAP if you continue to have problems logging in.

Very Tough Protection

As promised, we have installed industrial grade protection to our system to prevent abuse from people who are trying to sell stuff, or scam you, as opposed to trying to buy or rent your properties.

Contact Form Improved

We improved the contact form a little bit. The contact form now will include the probable location of the sender.

Also, due to an abuse incident which occurred this morning, the warning not to contact users for anything except genuine inquiries has been included for users even if they are logged in. More comprehensive and vigorous anti-abuse measures are coming next week.

Improved Ah Yer! Inquiry Form

Our inquiry form has been made more reliable. We also fixed a bug which caused messages containing certain characters to not display correctly, and fixed the “Edit” button, which wasn’t working correctly. We regret the problems. Rest assured that the system has been thoroughly tested for bugs, and we have confirmed that everything should be working 100% correctly now, but, as always, if you notice anything odd, do let us know.
